Madsen Update

I think Becky forgot to post on her week--oops! I was just wishing we could have more sister retreats. I need a round of Bananagrams (was that the name?)
I thought I would share my favorite new recipe. Potato Pancakes with Egg & Avocado. Easy and yummy. The other thing I just learned was about flat iron steak. Nobody told me! I went looking for filet and the butcher told me about flat iron steak, picked one out for me, and sent me on my way. I was really hoping he was right because I was making an appetizer for Jeffrey and his date for Tolo. It was fantastic and 1/4 the price. I sliced it very thinly and made Diablo sauce (in my cookbook). Wow. Of course, I could eat erasers with Diablo sauce. Anyway, if you haven't tried the flat iron steak, I recommend it. Get a really speckled one (says Winston the butcher).
Last month I went to a class about pruning fruit trees and the guy told us which varieties do well in our area. They are grown on dwarf root stocks so they don't grow really high, they are disease resistant, and some are self fertile. I was so excited I went to Home Depot and bought a big chain. Jeffrey and Bryon pulled out all the old nasty trees along the north side of our backyard (using the truck). I have ordered 5 fruit trees and am excited to plant them. 2 apples, a cherry, a plum, and a pear. Come on over in 2 years and have some fruit.
